Albania
a fleeting 86,400 seconds
Albania and I we didn’t have much, but what we had was real, for a day, and that is 86,400 seconds after all. Following that Balkan pomp along the Adriatic coast, Tirana’s down-to-earth vibes were grounding and those lively autumn streets soaked in just the right warmth. The architectural lineup was pleasantly diverse, and the futuristic traffic lights looked quite intelligent. And thanks for that friendly glass of Raki over a conversation that was more heartfelt than verbal – I feel a common language would only have complicated it.

...this is pretty much where the flying visit reaches its maximum altitude of inflight insights, falling short of the point where travel peaks in my opinion: when it opens up a more intimate angle on a foreign culture and the people who live it through their habits, everyday rituals, and mannerisms.
