exhibitions, awards, podcasts, things, life

It's been a wild summer. Well, where I am, it's actually winter. But it's the summery kind of winter and I haven't seen a drop of rain since I arrived in La Paz, Bolivia four months ago. Here's the latest:
mission exhibition
F L A M I N G O N E is currently making its first real world appearance at Altamira Gallery in La Paz alongside other works from the collection “can’t make that up.” It’s a privilege to show that iconic creature in the place where its fame originated and at one of the most aesthetic art venues I’ve seen.
We implemented an interactive element during the inauguration to examine the blurry line between photography and AI imagery, which really resonated with people. I want to take this exhibition and experiment on a global tour now and turn the results into a book. Currently I'm planning shows in Latin America, collaborating with institutions and galleries in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Montevideo, Santiago de Chile, and Medellin. Next stops: Europe and North America.
SILLY LOVE is currently on display at Trieste airport in Italy as part of URBAN Exhibits and Trieste Photo Days. YAY!

podcast ponderings

B&H Photography recently hosted a podcast with photomedia & AI artist Boris Eldagsen and me to explore the topographies of the new digital landscape and whether we are apt to navigate it. This was the second podcast Boris and I did together since our works The Electrician and F L A M I N G O N E united us on the same page of different books. Both podcasts will be published soon, so stay tuned.
another award, and another
It's hailing awards this summer. In June, F L A M I N G O N E won the people's choice and a jury award at 1839 Awards and the rest is history (that is already being taught in schools and universities, much to my delight).
In July, "iron age stone" was shortlisted for SUGi x NAVA's people’s choice award, which was a great honor given how much I admire SUGi’s mission of greening cities and NAVA’s vision of making art more accessible.

And, believe it or not (I don’t), in August "his tribe" was nominated for the popular vote at the GLF Africa 2024 Photography Awards. One award for each month of summer;) First time was my charm though and seeing that I favor other entries over my own this time, I’ve decided not to campaign. The competition is well worth checking out though and maybe you want to cast a vote for one of the other entries:

I also recommend tuning in for the GLF Africa 2024 hybrid conference "Greening the African Horizon," which will take place in Nairobi and online on September 17.
things and other things

I've got some big things in the works, but I'll be damned if I jinx them by telling you before they're ripe. Suffices to say three words: documentary, collection, festival.
off to a new life

My time in La Paz is coming to an end after four life-changing months, both professionally and personally. When I leave here, I won't be turning a page or starting a new chapter. I'll be off to a new life. My third. Next stops: NY, DC, London, Paris.
Thanks for being part of my journey,
Miles
